(TAP) -The African Development Bank (AfDB) will mobilise around half a billion dollars for Tunisia's energy, finance and agriculture sectors in 2019, said AfDB President Akinwumi Adesina, who is making his first official visit to Tunisia from May 2 to 4, 2019.

In a statement issued by the Bank, Adesina also underscored the Bank's commitment to keep supporting Tunisia and help it finance structuring projects.

As such, several agreements have been signed, including a donation agreement with Minister of Development, Investment and International Cooperation Zied Ladhari, on the creation of a public action supervision unit, to optimise the implementation of donor-funded projects, programmes and public reforms.

The AfDB has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Maghreb Bank for Investment and Foreign Trade (BMICE) with the aim of supporting its reorganisation and modernising its information and communication system.

Adesina had met with Prime Minister Youssef Chahed on the first day of his visit.

The meeting discussed the various aspects of the Bank's co-operation with Tunisia and outlined the prospects for strengthening it.

He also inaugurated the regional office of the Bank for North Africa in Tunis. The institution "is here to stay," said President Adesina.

Tunisia had hosted the AfDB temporary relocation agency for more than a decade, between 2003 and 2014; Adesina considered that it was "a natural choice" to house the regional representation from which are now managed the Bank's operations in the six North African countries.

More than a hundred employees are already working in the Tunis office, managing nearly $ 10 billion in operations throughout North Africa.

During the first day of the visit, Adesina also met entrepreneurs financed under "Souk At-Tamnia".

The programme offers financial and non-financial support to young people who innovate, carry out projects and want to realise their ideas
