"Despite the persistence of the difficult situation in Tunisia, the government has made progress in implementing the points set out in the Carthage Document," Prime Minister Youssef Chahed said on Saturday.

"The government has succeeded in restoring production, fighting terrorism and improving growth rates. The problem rests in particularl in the financial balances, "he pointed out at the end of his meeting with signatories of the Carthage Document, who continue to support the government.

While reaffirming the government's determination to implement the various points of the Carthage Document, Chahed emphasised the commitment of participants in this meeting to stand by the government to implement these points.

To this end, Committees will be set up to examine the major reforms, in particular in the fields of social security, administration and civil service, he said.

According to him, the meeting made it possible to strengthen the consultations between the government and allied parliamentary groups and to hold periodic meetings between the government and the Carthage Document's signatories who continue to support the government.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Tunisian Labour Union (UGTT), the Tunisian Confederation of Trade, Industry and Handicrafts (UTICA) and the Tunisian Union of Tunisia Agriculture and Fisheries (UTAP) as well as representatives of the political parties, signatories of the Carthage Document, with the exception of Echaâb Movement and Machrou Tounes Movement.
