Government takes several decisions for Tataouine governorate

The President of the Government Youssef Chahed has decided to increase the capital of Tataouine's environment, planting and gardening company allowing it to immediately start hiring.

These decisions were announced following a meeting held at the Government Palace in Kasbah as part of following up the agreement in principle emanating from the meeting held on April 4, 2017 in Tataouine and the meeting with representatives of oil companies (April 7, 2017).

Here are the decisions taken during this meeting:

- Implement the agreement that gives priority to the recruitment of local residents in petroleum companies according to the skills demanded. No less than 70%of locals must be recruited.

- Establish a joint committee to prepare a quarterly report to monitor the level of compliance to commitments by each side. The Minister of Energy will publish, before the end of April 2017, a decree for oil companies. The governor of Tataouine will publish in the same context a decree intended for companies operating in other services.

- Implement the agreement on granting priority to service companies located in Tataouine when contracts are awarded by oil companies, in the context of transparency, with the regional council's commitment to monitor the application of the contracts.

- Open representations of the oil companies operating in the Tataouine governorate under the supervision of the Tunisian Company of Petroleum Activities (ETAP), before the end of July 2017.

- Establish a committee to evaluate the management of the social responsibility programme’s budget and to prepare, by mid-May 2017, a report to be published and presented in a Cabinet meeting to consider the budget increase quota for this programme.

- Set up a regional committee under the supervision of the Ministry of Vocational Training and Employment to review applications for SAHARA employment cards.

- Asphalt 10 km of the Djebel Matous road in a first stage to facilitate the passage of equipment, workers and supplies through the city of Tataouine

- Organise an awareness day on energy, employment, entrepreneurship and agriculture on Saturday, April 22, 2017 in the Tataouine region, in the presence of all the parties involved.

- Hold a Cabinet meeting on development in the city of Tataouine, under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister in the second half of May 2017.

- The Minister of Vocational Training and Employment will be responsible for co-ordination between the ministries in the implementation of the points mentioned.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies, the Ministers of Vocational Training and Employment, Relations with Constitutional Bodies, Civil Society and Human Rights, Public Works, Housing and Spatial Planning, the official spokesman for the government, the Secretary of State for Digital Economy, the Governor of Tataouine, MPs and representatives of national organizations in the region, UGTT, UTICA and UTAP.

The meeting focused on development problems and ways to solve solve them.

The attendees praised the peaceful nature of protests in Tataouine, reaffirming the government's commitment to providing the region’s right to development.
