Chahed kicks off water transfer system from north to centre and Cap Bon

(TAP) – The President of the Government Youssef Chahed gave Friday in Sejnane the kick-off of the system of transfer of water from north to the centre and the Cape Bon, which is part of the large-scale projects of Sejnane.

This project, carried out with an amount of 36 MD, will provide during the first phase of its entry into operation, next June drinking water to more than 15 thousand people. Once completed, it will provide drinking water supply to more than 36 thousand people.

The President of the Government who visited the Bizerte Governorate today visited the Kamkoum dam project in Sejnane, which is part of the ten-year water resource mobilisation programme for an amount of 38 MD.

Chahed said in a statement to the media that the system of transferring part of the waters from north to centre, Cap Bon and even Sfax, will make it possible to fill the rainfall deficit and ensure an equation between the supply of drinking water and water for irrigation and the agricultural sector as a whole.

Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries Samir Taieb has announced the launch of a study on the construction of an irrigated perimeter on an area of 500 ha in Sejnane.

The President of the Government also met with some residents of the region who mentioned several problems related to the construction of dams as well as problems related to development and employment.

The drinking water supply rate in rural areas in the governorate of Bizerte reaches 85%.
