Anti-corruption drive and country's security situation at heart of Caid Essebsi/Chahed meeting

(TAP) - The country’s security, economic and social situation as well as the latest arrests made to counter corruption were at heart of President Beji Caid Essebsi’s meeting with The President of the Government

Youssef Chahed on Thursday in Carthage Palace.

Chahed was quoted in a Presidency press release as saying the Head of State insisted on the need to move forward in the fight against corruption.

The President of the Republic also stressed the need to mobilise the necessary financial and legal resources to deal with any threat to the State, its economy, security and stability.

The President of the Government Youssef Chahed said, on Wednesday, "the government will fight a battle against corruption to the end and assumes its responsibilities in this regard."

Several people, including business figures, were arrested on Tuesday over charges of "breach of State security" and "corruption."
