New measures to reduce vessel waiting times at the port of Rades

(TAP) - The Ministry of Transport announced, Wednesday, a series of measures after a meeting held following The President of the Government Youssef Chahed’s visit at the port of Rades on Wednesday morning. During that visit, The President of the Government had called for taking urgent measures to reduce vessel waiting times in the free zone and increase the port’s efficiency.

Here are the main measures announced at the end of this meeting held in the presence of the CEO of the Tunisian Shipping Company (CTN) and the Office of the Merchant Navy and Ports (OMMP):

- Do not exceed 200 empty containers per boat,

- Process 60 containers per shift (6 hours) and for each platform,

- Hold a meeting within 48 hours with stakeholders at the port to encourage them to deliver the containers within a reasonable period of time, i.e. within 10 days (currently 17 days),

- Fix the list of containers loaded for each vessel during export, immediately after the unloading operation,

- Accelerate the adoption of the decision to increase the cost of port services.

In addition, The President of the Government ordered the opening of an investigation into the circumstances of the fire that broke out Wednesday afternoon at the port of Rades.
