Head of state presides over religious ceremony on celebration of destiny night

(TAP) – President Béji Caid Essebsi presided over a religious ceremony on the occasion of the celebration of the night of destiny on Wednesday afternoon at the Zituna mosque in the capital.

On this occasion, the President of the Republic honoured the winners of the national competition for the memorisation and recitation of the Quran for the year 2017. They are Rachid Allani (1st winner of the Tunisian International Prize), Bechir Saidani (1st winner of the national competition), Safouane Ziadi (2nd prize winner) and Akrem Baklouti (3rd prize winner).

On this same occasion, Sheikh Hichem Ben Mahmoud, Imam of the Zitouna mosque, gave a religious lecture on "Breezes of the Night of Destiny", highlighting the "qualities of this sacred night for Muslims, since it was marked by the revelation of the Quran, which established the pillars of Islamic Sharia. "

He also reviewed the main characteristics of Islam and the qualities of the Prophet Mohamad.

Participants in the ceremony listened to verses from the Quran and narratives of the life of the Prophet.

The event was attended by the Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives, the Prime Minister, members of the government, ambassadors of Muslim countries to Tunisia and presidents of political parties, as well as national figures, senior officials and Imams of the Zitouna Mosque.
