(TAP correspondent Hassène Khiari) - U.S. Vice President Mike Pence Monday reiterated his country's readiness to provide economic and security support to Tunisia and underpin its democratic process.

Pence tweeted that he met with The President of the Government Youssef Chahed, who is on a working visit in Washington, to reaffirm readiness to support Tunisia in beefing up its security capabilities, undertaking economic reforms and enhancing democratic institutions.

Earlier, Chahed met with Defense Secretary James Mattis and Secretary of the Treasury Steven T. Mnuchin. The latter were receptive to the arguments put forward to make the case for the democratic process under way in Tunisia and demonstrate that the economy is showing good signs of recovery.

This is reflected in the US Department of Defence and Department of Treasury's tweets and posts on social media soon after the Premier's talks with Mattis and Mnuchin.

The US Department of Defence published a tweet with several photographs of the two officials after a meeting that was called crucial for Tunisia's economic growth.

The US Department of Treasury spoke on Instagram about a productive meeting between Mnuchin and Chahed.

Youssef Chahed gave interviews to Time magazine and Wall Street Journal on the first day of his visit and met with members of the Tunisian community in Washington at a reception held at the Tunisian Ambassador's residence
