(TAP) – The President of the Government Youssef Chahed said that the judiciary is a key factor in ensuring the success of war against corruption, affirming the government's determination to ensure that judges rule independently in application of the Constitution.

Speaking at a hearing before the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) on Thursday, Chahed pointed out that in the wake of the government's war on corruption, a Cabinet Meeting will be held shortly to examine the measures to be taken to improve the working conditions of judges.

In this regard, he recalled the measures taken in the judicial sector, as testified to by the recruitment of 500 judicial judges in the past two years, 60 judges to the Administrative Court and 20 judges to the Court of Auditors.

He added that it had also been decided to finalise the process of recruiting about 1,000 officials in the courts before the end of 2017 among clerks, administrative staff and other staff. This implies, the PM specified, additional recruitments of at least 20% of all officials.

The development budget of the Justice Ministry registered a 20% increase in 2017 for the improvement of the basic infrastructure and working conditions of magistrates, Chahed specified.
