Three Presidents commemorate 60th anniversary of proclamation of Republic

(TAP) – President Béji Caïd Essebsi presided over the 60th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic on Tuesday afternoon at the House of People's Representatives (HPR).

The Head of State was accompanied by HPR Speaker Mohamed Ennaceur and The President of the Government Youssef Chahed.

On this occasion, Ennaceur said, in a press statement, that "the parliament continues its legislative activity in the service of the country, while ensuring to play its role in the control of the government".

"The HPR is an assembly of construction because it is the first parliamentary assembly of the 2nd Republic, which will consecrate the principles of the constitution," he added.

Giant replicas of the proclamation of the Republic and the two preambles of the constitution of 1959 and of 2014 were on this occasion installed in the lobby of the parliament.

The ceremony took place in the presence of the members of the HPR, the National Constituent Assembly (NCA), as well as former The President of the Government after the Revolution, former Presidents of the Republic, Heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Tunisia, presidents of political parties represented in parliament and presidents of national organisations.

The journalists were prevented from following the ceremony and were unable to enter the precincts until after the head of state had left.
