Presidency of Republic mourns death of Slim Chaker

(TAP) – The Presidency of the Republic mourns the death of Health Minister Slim Chaker who died Sunday of a heart attack during his participation in a marathon in Nabeul as part of a campaign to raise awareness and prevention of breast cancer, on the occasion of the Rose October.

In a statement, the presidency of the Republic expresses condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family.

Slim Chaker (56) was appointed Minister of Health during the last cabinet reshuffle by the Prime Minister last September.

Native of Sfax, he obtained his baccalaureate at Sadiki High School in 1979 and followed three years of master degree in mathematics at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Tunis until 1983. He also studied in Paris at the National School of Statistics and Economic Administration where he became a statistical engineer in 2006. He also obtained an MBA in 2008 from the Mediterranean School of Business in Tunis.

The defunct began working at the Ministry of Planning (1986/1991). He also worked in the banking sector as Deputy Director of the Tunisian-Qatar Investment Bank (1991-1992) and Director of Studies at the Textile Technical Centre (1992-1998).

In 2011, he was appointed Secretary of State for Tourism (from January to June) and then Minister of Youth and Sports (from July to December)

He was appointed Minister of Finance on 5 February 2015. He subsequently held the post of Minister Adviser to the President of the Republic in charge of political affairs.

He was among the first founders of the Nidaa Tounes party.

Slim Chaker was married and father of three children.
