Chahed kicks off 1st part of Culture City project

(TAP) - The President of the Government Youssef Chahed kicked off on Friday the 1st part of the Culture City project, which will be officially opened on March 20, 2018, on the celebration of the 62nd anniversary of Independence.

On this occasion, the PG pointed out the importance of this project as a major achievement for Tunisian men of culture, artists and creators.

 

Chahed toured the city and took note of the furtherance state of the project located on the Mohamed V avenue on a ​​9.2 hectare-area at a global cost estimated at 125 million dinars.

The 1st part of the project involves two cinemas with a capacity of 350 and 150 seats, 7 artistic and creative production studios, a 700-seat theatre, an artist house, a 1,800-seat opera house in addition to a multimedia library and commercial spaces.

 Culture Minister Mohamed Zine el Abidine said that the largest part that is 80% ready is the cinematographic centre, the plastic arts centre, the museum of modern and contemporary art and the editing studios.

"The 2nd phase of the project, which will be finished off by the end of February 2018, regards mainly drama spaces, such as the Opera house, the theatre of regions, the theatre house and a 300-seat theatre for young creators," he added.

During this visit, the film library was inaugurated by the screening of Albert Samama Chikli's "La Pêche au Ton" film, shot in Tunisia in 1906. This four-minute film was found after 110 years in 2015, in the Poland’s film library, in a tribute to the pioneer of the Tunisian cinema Albert Samama-Chikli.
