PG inaugurates SIAMAP 2017

(TAP)- The President of the Government Youssef Chahed Tuesday inaugurated the International Show of Agriculture, Agricultural Machinery and Fishing (SIAMAP 2017) , held on October 31-November 5 by the Tunisian Union of Agriculture and Fisheries (French: UTAP) at El Kram Exhibition Centre.

Chahed was accompanied by Ministers of Trade and Agriculture Amor Béhi and Samir Taieb, respectively, UTAP President Abdelmajid Zar as well as government members and MPs.

About 500 Tunisian and foreign exhibitors from 36 countries of Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas are participating in this edition; over 200,000 visitors and professionals are expected.

Several official bodies will also be represented, including those coming under the Ministry of Agriculture, embassies, chambers of commerce, civil society organisations, trade unions as well as research and agricultural training centres.

Topping the agenda are lectures and workshops that will tackle issues in relation to the challenges of liberalisation in agriculture in the framework of the Deep and Comprehensive Free trade Agreement (DCFTA), the national olive oil strategy, the national water strategy, renewables in agriculture and the agribusiness sector , the ecological farming system and agricultural policies.

A forum will also be held on the theme of "African Women Farmers: Women as Autonomous Actors in Economy," in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
