(TAP) - Prime Minister Youssef Chahed, on Tuesday, pledged to provide the necessary appropriations in 2018 to improve the situation of educational institutions, especially in inner regions and working-class districts, so that "the school of the Republic would be a foundation of equal opportunities and regain its role as social enhancer.”

Presenting the government\\'s declaration on the draft state budget and the finance bill for 2018 at a plenary session of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR), Chahed estimated that it is unacceptable that the Tunisian school which has been one of the pillars of the modern state be in such a state in 2017.

The Premier said he has instructed the Minister of Education to launch, as soon as possible, a wide consultation with the various parties involved to begin the reform of the education and training system.

The role of the State in development hinges on the reform of the education and training system so that it would be in harmony with the production system, he pointed out.

The role of the State in the field of development does not in any way mean the full responsibility for all the production sectors, but rather overcoming shortcomings in the field of regional development and encouraging investment in regions, he argued.
