Chahed announces series of decisions for first Saharan territorial unit in Remada

(TAP) – Prime Minister Youssef Chahed, who made an inspecting visit to the first Saharan territorial Army unit in Remada, Tataouine governorate, announced a series of measures to increase the fighting capacitiy of military units and improve the material and moral conditions of the military.

The visit is intended as a means to learn about the development of the security situation in the various border areas of the country and to inspect work of the various military units deployed throughout the border belt to better secure the Tunisian borders and to prevent and deal with any possible terrorist act, the Prime Ministry said in a statement.

The same source said the measures decided by Chahed concern:

- Increase in military salaries, all grades. These increases will be applied gradually from the beginning of 2018, because of the pressures on the state budget and the economic conditions underwent by the country.

- Free transport on national and regional public transport lines for the military, all ranks, from 1 January 2018.

- Bearing the cost of the restoration and rehabilitation of military housing in Remada to guarantee best living conditions for soldiers and their families in the region.

- Reinforcement of training, improvement of intelligence services in the framework of international cooperation and acquisition of equipment adapted to unconventional threats.

During this visit, Youssef Chahed welcomed the favourable response that the project of Rejim Maatoug has found on the national and international scale, noting that this ambitious mega-project will allow to develop, populate and dynamise the Saharan areas.

In this regard, the Prime Minister considered what follows:

- The development of Remada airport to accommodate civil aircraft,

- The construction of roads, the development of agricultural land and the use of renewable energies to provide energy to the various components of the project,

- The construction of integrated housing groups with all the necessary amenities.

During his visit, Chahed paid tribute to the important missions assigned to the first Saharan territorial unit in Remada, noting that these missions are at the same time military, security, economic, social and humanitarian.

During his visit, Chahed was accompanied by Minister of National Defence Abdelkarim Zbidi.
