Chahed receives Romania's Meleșcanu

(TAP) – Prime Minister Youssef Chahed received on Friday Romania’s Foreign Minister Teodor Viorel Meleșcanu, who is on a two-day working visit to Tunisia (April 19-20), at the invitation of Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui.

Meleșcanu said at the end of the meeting, that he had presented to the PM the proposals and projects that he had discussed with Jhinaoui to boost bilateral relations at the political, economic and cultural levels and in the education and higher education fields.

He pointed out that Romania hosts 1,700 Tunisian students, adding that “we want these students to become a bridge between Tunisia and Romania.”

During the meeting, the Romanian FM commended the democratic transition in Tunisia which, he estimated, “is a success at the political level.”

“However, this transition requires an economic and social support, » he added.

According to him, “Romania and Tunisia adopted the same transitional process.” “Twenty years ago, we changed from an authoritarian one-party society to a democratic society,” he pointed out.

In this regard, Meleșcanu affirmed his country’s keenness to make its democratic transition experience available to Tunisia
