(TAP) – “The war on terrorism cannot be won in the absence of dialogue between religions and civilisations,” Prime Minister Youssef Chahed said.

“Countering terrorism requires joining the genuine willingness of the nations, religions and civilisations to bring views closer, identify common points and defeat extremism,” he affirmed on Thursday in Djerba at the opening of the International Conference on Religions and Civilisations to counter Extremism and Terrorism.

Tunisia has a single experience that requires support from all of its friends and partners, Chahed pointed out. This is an experience that shows the victory of reason and wisdom and proves that day after day human values can establish peace in the world, he added.

“The war on terrorism is above all a conceptual war that cannot be won only through security and military solutions but also by ideal and religious approaches,” he indicated. Rationalisation of religious speech is key to security, he emphasised.

The Premier further recalled that winning the war on terrorism is an essential component of the Carthage Document and is a priority for the national unity government as it is the key guarantor to get the country out of the crisis it has been living for years.

In this respect, he mentioned the national anti-terrorism and extremism strategy promulgated by President Beji Caid Essebsi.

“All that has been achieved in Tunisia in terms of democracy is based on the protection of rights and freedoms of all citizens without discrimination,” he pointed out
