(TAP) – Prime Minister Youssef Chahed on Tuesday kicked off the start of the technical implementation of positive discrimination in university orientation for the next academic year.

8% of so-called noble subjects (medical, engineering, humanitarian and social sciences) will be reserved for baccalaureate students from inland regions whose average does not allow them to join these specialties.

Chahed, who was acquainted at the El-Khawarizmi Centre with the preparations for the university orientation operation, pointed out that this government decision, announced on March 23, 2018, will enable 416 students from the interior regions to continue their studies in these specialties. This is in order to combat social injustice because of the imbalance between the regions in terms of development, which has had a negative impact on equal opportunities in the field of university orientation, he said.

A grant worth 500 dinars will also be granted, from the next academic year, to new graduates from needy families, along with the increase in the capacity of homes and university restaurants, announced Chahed.

Talented bachelors whose scores do not allow them to join certain specialties (music, theater ...) will have the opportunity to be candidates for tests reserved for certain sectors, he said.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister took note of the applications used by the El-Khawarizmi Centre to guarantee computer security in the processing of requests for remote orientation and protection of the computer system.
