(TAP) – “The choice of Tunisia to host the preparatory conference for the Arab Family Summit is a recognition of the importance of its role at the regional and international levels," said Thursday Prime Minister Youssef Chahed at the opening of the preparatory conference organised on the theme:" the Arab family and the UN 2030 agenda.”

On this occasion, Chahed stressed the importance of preserving the family cohesion and balance and the need to improve the living quality.

He pointed out in this regard, that these two objectives are part of the national strategy implemented by Tunisia to promote the family and the values of citizenship, human rights and social justice between regions and social categories in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Chahed added that the conference is an opportunity to develop an Arab action plan for the protection of the family from all the dangers that threaten it.

"It is also an opportunity to take stock of the situation of the Arab family and to think about ways and mechanisms to improve the family’s social, human and educational conditions," he said.

Chahed indicated that violence, isolation and psychological deception are factors that have heightened imbalances in the family and threaten social peace.

In this regard, he considered that the sustainable development goals adopted by the 193 UN member countries for the period after 2013, emphasised the responsibility of States and family structures, in particular, and society in general, in reinforcing policies, strategies and legislation related to the family.

The PM underlined that about 100 representatives of government agencies and foreign and national organisations as well as experts are taking part in this conference
