(TAP) – The Prime Minister will announce, on July 6, 2018, an increase in guaranteed minimum wage (SMIG), UGTT Secretary-General Nourredine Taboubi said, without specifying the amount of this increase.

Speaking at the end of a working session held at the Government Palace in Kasbah and dedicated to the start of wage negotiations, Tabboubi added that the meeting aims, in particular, to activate the social dialogue, in accordance with the November 27 agreement on precarious work, construction workers, adult education and people formerly filed by the police.

It was agreed to resolve all these issues by July 6, he said.

The meeting also allowed, according to Tabboubi, to discuss issues relating to the deterioration of the purchasing power of employees, adding that it was decided to resume the negotiations to preserve social stability on July 10.

Regarding pensioners under the National Pension and Social Welfare Fund, the union official announced that a legal problem will be settled in the next week at the latest.

Negotiations in the civil service and the public sector began Thursday at a meeting between representatives of the UGTT and the government at the Government Palace in the Kasbah.

Prime Minister Youssef Chahed said, at the opening of this session, the government shares with the labour organisation the desire to strengthen the social gains achieved since independence and is working, despite the difficult situation of public finances and the critical economic situation, to promote these gains.
