(TAP) – Prime Minister Youssef Chahed inaugurated on Wednesday in the el Mghira industrial zone (Ben Arous governorate), the Peugeot Pick-Up assembly unit.

This industrial unit is the first of its kind created in North Africa by the mother enterprise by means of 32 million Tunisian dinars.

According to preliminary estimates, the project will generate nearly 400 direct and indirect jobs in Tunisia.

The project will help meet the needs of local, interregional and international markets. Through this externalisation Peugeot seeks to open up on neighbouring markets, notably the Moroccan and Algerian, pending the conquest of new destinations, according to the project’s officials.

The choice of Tunisia’s destination to set up this kind of projects is a good sign as to the confidence of foreign investors in the business climate and their re-injection of their capitals in Tunisia, Chahed said in a statement to the media.

He added that this project will undoubtedly boost Tunisian-French co-operation and consecrate confidence in Tunisian competences in all fields, particularly those related to technology.

The inauguration of this unit was also attended by Development, Investment and International Co-operation Minister Zied Laadheri, Industry and Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises Minister Slim Feriani, Secretary of State to Trade Minister Hichem Ben Ahmed, Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) Noureddine Tabboubi and several regional and local officials
