Chahed says competence, integrity criteria for interior ministry pick

(TAP)- Premier Youssef Chahed Saturday said the nomination of the new interior minister was based on such criteria as competence, integrity and close ties with the security institution.

The nominee is highly qualified and has kept away from political wrangling, he told MPs at a plenary session held Saturday to vote confidence in the new minister.

Chahed said he is convinced Hichem Fourati is among the national personalities best suited to implement the roadmap for the security institution and uphold the concept of the republican security apparatus.

Deputies will certainly endorse this choice for "the protection of the homeland is above any other consideration," the Prime Minister emphasised.

"If Hichem Fourati gets a vote of confidence, he will be in charge of a roadmap that revolves around beefed up operational capacities of the security apparatus in the war against terrorism, a stronger republican character and protection against infiltration
