(TAP) - "Rescue operations have been difficult because of the unusually heavy rains recorded on Wednesday in 19 governorates of the country and the situation is likely to worsen in Boussalem (Jendouba) over the next few hours," Prime Minister Youssef Chahed said on Thursday.

The government's priority is the search for missing persons and reducing the level of cumulative waters, he said at a meeting of the National Committee for Disaster Reduction and Prevention, at the headquarters of the Civil Protection in Tunis.

Search is ongoing to find a 39-year-old adult missing in Kasserine and a 6-year-old boy unaccounted for in Zaghouan.

Chahed called for vigilance, stressing the commitment of the government and all the structures concerned to intervene quickly to save citizens in all governorates.

Chahed emphasised the importance of implementing the National Strategy for Natural Disaster Reduction, which is being finalised to improve natural disaster management methods and sensitize citizens not to build close to wadis
