Tunisia-EU: Economic co-operation prospects reviewed

(TAP) - Prime Minister Youssef Chahed received on Friday President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker.

The two officials discussed co-operation prospects in several sectors, including the economy.

The meeting had focused on the 2018-2020 roadmap defining strategic priorities between the two sides, said Youssef Chahed during a press briefing.

Speaking about the implementation of the Open Sky agreements, Chahed said that Tunisia expects the European side to speed up the implementation procedures, pointing out that these agreements will not fail to bring a new dynamic to the economic life.

The exportation of Tunisian olive oil, the withdrawal of Tunisia from the EU’s black lists and means to facilitate Tunisian youths’ access to the European space were also on the agenda of the meeting.

The PM commended the EU's constant support to Tunisia, calling it to speed up the materialisation of the agreements signed between the two sides and release the allocated funds.

Jean-Claude Juncker affirmed for his part, that the EU supports Tunisia in its efforts to implement the necessary reforms at all levels.

He reiterated the EU's support to Tunisian youth, announcing the decision to increase the number of students benefiting from the Erasmus+ program.

Both sides also discussed co-operation in the field of civil protection, through the EU’s decision to involve Tunisia in a more active way in the European Civil Protection Program
