(TAP) – Prime Minister Youssef Chahed, on Friday, announced the creation of 23 new health structures and 19 emergency services throughout the Republic in 2019.

Speaking at the 2nd International Conference of African Cardiovascular Societies held in Tabarka, the Prime Minister stressed the need to take the necessary steps to improve the services of the public health sector and improve its good governance.

Tunisia is currently working to develop relations with other African countries to become a destination of choice for investment in the public sector, he stressed.

To this end, he said, it is imperative to ease administrative procedures, inaugurate new direct flights, develop the capacity of doctors and fill vacancies.

"It is also essential to stop the brain drain and study its main causes," he added.

In this conference held from October 25-27, participants expressed "concern" about figures from some scientific studies that revealed that 50% of people with heart failure die after only 5 years of discovery of the disease.

The same source said that 11% of those under 40, most of whom are women, have suffered a stroke.

President of the Tunisian Society of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery, Faouzi Hadded said that smoking, excessive salt consumption, high blood pressure, diabetes and lack of physical activity favour heart disease.

According to him, it remains urgent to find the necessary solutions in collaboration with the ministry to prevent this disease.
