Multidimensional poverty registry: 90% of needy and low-income families listed

(TAP) – The updating of the multidimensional poverty registre has helped list 90% of needy and low-income families targeted by this census initiated by the Ministry of Social Affairs in order to benefit social category of social security assistance and services.


 "900,000 Tunisian families, including 600,000 needy families and 300,000 low-income families are affected by this registre and will receive social benefits on the basis of the Unique Social Identifier system," Prime Minister Youssef Chahed told MPs on Saturday night, during the parliamentary debate on the draft state budget and the budget law for the year 2019.


"Smart cards" will be distributed to these families in the second quarter of 2019, "added the Premier, recalling that the registre is an electronic database that can directly guide the aid provided by the State and social services to families listed.


Chahed also indicated that the current government has opted, in the context of the 2019 budget law, for enhancing the health and education sectors and will continue its programmes to support low income groups
