(TAP) – Enhancing the public service delivery is a priority for the government in the coming period, Prime Minister Youssef Chahed said on Saturday.

Speaking at a plenary session of the House of People's Representatives (HPR) on the review of the draft state budget and the economic budget for 2019, Chahed stressed that the government has allocated 800 million dinars to the education sector in the state budget of 2019 for the development and maintenance of thousands of schools to improve the quality of education.

He also reminded of the establishment by the Government at the start of the school year and despite the pressures of public finance of a new form of contract for substitute teachers to guarantee them social security and improve their wages and their working conditions.

He added that these measures remain insufficient but important pending the reform of the education system that has become an emergency.

Chahed also said that the health sector also suffers from a lack of human resources (medics, paramedics and workers), stressing the urgent need to mobilise the necessary resources to enable 22 medical units spread across the country to open their doors in the first quarter of next year
