(TAP) - Prime Minister Youssef Chahed, on Wednesday, called on Arab countries to "co-operate actively and jointly" to counter "growing terrorist threats" in region and around the world.

He made this call at a speech delivered at the opening of the 42nd annual conference of "Arab Police and Security Leaders" organised by the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers on December 12 and 13 in Tunis.

Chahed pointed to the "persistence of factors fostering terrorism in the region, including primarily the continuation of armed conflicts in a number of Arab countries, the expansion of the activities of terrorist organisations, the proliferation of training centres for fighters and weapons, the growing extremist rhetoric and the activity of networks of organised crime which represent an important source of financing terrorism.”

"The prevention of these threats, especially terrorism and related phenomena, requires a thorough diagnosis of these risks, identifying their causes, understanding their characteristics and limiting all their links, alliances and objectives,” he further indicated.

The Prime Minister pointed to the "impossibility of eliminating" these "threats and risks ... in the absence of joint and effective solidarity co-operation" between countries of the region.

Youssef Chahed also called for "strengthening Arab cooperation" in combating "cybercrime" as "serious and trans-boundary crimes" and because "monitoring the activities of criminal networks and extremist groups on the Internet is a very sensitive and complex matter."

Among the topics to be discussed by the conference, "Arab Strategies for Countering Cypercrimes" and "Establishment of a unit within the Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of Interior to enhance co-operation among Arab countries in the field of electronic security
