Chahed receives annual reports of Ombudsman and Court of Cassation for 2017

(TAP) - Prime Minister Youssef Chahed, on Thursday, received the 24th annual report of the Ombudsman for 2017.

Ombudsman Abdessatar Ben Moussa, who handed him the report in Dar Dhiafa in Carthage said he reviewed with the PM the activities of the institution in 2017, a year placed under the motto "defending a right is a duty, performing a duty is a responsibility".

The meeting with the Prime Minister also focused on the difficulties encountered by the institution and the proposals put forward for the reform of the administrative and legislative system, said the Ombudsman.

Abdessatar Ben Moussa emphasised the role of the monitoring committee in the execution of the decisions taken against the administration, calling for its institutionalisation in order to guarantee the right of the litigants.

In this regard, he stated that the response rate of the administration reached 60 pc of the cases.

For its part, First president of the Court of Cassation Taieb Rashed handed the Prime Minister the annual report of the jurisdiction for the year 2017.

The document included an overview of the history of Tunisian justice as well as figures illustrating the efforts made by the presidents of cassation chambers, counselors and general advocates.

The report lists more than 2,660 cassation decisions and 33 judgments of the various chambers.

The meeting also focused on proposals to develop the performance of the Court of Cassation through, among others, the amendment of laws governing this jurisdiction
