(TAP) - Ways to strengthen bilateral co-operation, particularly in the areas of tourism, trade, investment, culture, transport and financial co-operation as well as the upcoming bilateral events were discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Youssef Chahed and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov Saturday in Tunis.

At the end of the talks, Lavrov expressed the hope that trade between Tunisia and Russia would be balanced, voicing satisfaction at the level of trade between the two countries, according to a statement from the Prime Ministry.

The Russian Foreign Minister also said it was agreed to hold the seventh session of the Tunisian-Russian Joint Commission in Tunisia this year to speed up the signing of a number of joint agreements between the two countries.

He also added that there is a partnership programme between Tunisia and Russia that was launched this year and will continue until 2021, covering the economic, scientific and nuclear sectors.

The Russian FM added that emphasis was put on the need to accelerate the signing of a number of government decrees for the peaceful use of nuclear energy, Russia's participation in international tenders in land and rail transport projects and environmental protection projects and the need to facilitate the issuance of visas to and from Russia.

The Russian Foreign Minister said he will work to encourage Russian companies and businessmen to invest in Tunisia, by contributing, in particular, to infrastructure projects such as railways, bridges and roads
