Textile sector pledges to create 50 thousand jobs in next five years (Chahed) [Upd 1]

(TAP) - "Textile professionals pledged to provide 50,000 jobs over the next five years under an agreement signed on Thursday between the government and the Tunisian Textile and Garment Federation (FTTH)," said Prime Minister Youssef Chahed, adding that the government is committed to providing infrastructure and a favorable climate for investment.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of his visit to the company Tunicotex specialising in textile / clothing, Chahed said that despite the difficulties, the sector is returning to the path of growth. "Several companies including the Tunicotex group, represent success stories," the Prime Minister pointed out.

He recalled that Tunicotex, which employs nearly 1,400 people and has invested nearly 50 million dinars, is an example of the capacity of companies established in Tunisia to expand and achieve success.

In the same context, he stressed that the government is working to strengthen driver sectors, such as textiles that provide nearly 160 thousand jobs and that of automotive components and the pharmaceutical sector.

In a statement to TAP, director of Tunicotex Haithem Bouajila stressed that the company makes winter clothing on behalf of major international brands. "Our company which employs nearly 1400 people, exports annually for a value of 105 MD," said the manager, adding that it plans as part of the diversification of its production to extend its headquarters in Soliman on an area of more than 2000 m3.
