Higher Investment Council approves four mega projects worth 227 MD

(TAP) – The Higher Investment Council (CSI) adopted four mega projects worth 227 million dinars (MD), Minister of Development, Investment and International Co-operation Zied Laadhari announced on Thursday.

The mega projects include an agro-food industry project in Sidi Bouzid, two projects of car components manufacture and aircraft components manufacture project in El Mghira (Ben Arous), he indicated.

A list of investment projects estimated at an overall amount of 2.6 billion dinars will be submitted for examination during the council's next meetings, composed of representatives of the various ministries and public structures including the Tunisian Investment Authority (TIA), Laadhari said.

He specified that the Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) edged up 28.6% in 2018, compared with 2017 and up 44% compared with 2016.

Despite the drop in the dinar’s value compared to other currencies, the FDI increased by 17.6% in 2018 in dollars and 12.6% in Euros, he added.

The council's meeting was followed by a discussion forum on the horizontal draft law to improve the investment and business climate and the 2020 action plan aimed to improve the business climate.

Prime Minister Youssef Chahed, several ministers, general directors, President of the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA) Samir Majoul and representatives of the private sector attended the forum.

Tunisian Investment Authority President Baligh Ben Soltane pointed out that the draft law aims to simplify administrative procedures and it will be submitted Thursday evening to the House of People’s Representatives Commission of Finance, Planning and Development, calling for speeding up its adoption to boost the investments’ growth pace
