Protests against fuel price increases are understandable" (Youssef Chahed)

(TAP) – “I understand the protests against the decision to increase fuel prices, yet this decision is not the government’s choice, it is rather due to the pressure on the budget,” said Prime Minister Youssef Chahed on Tuesday.

He evoked, in a statement to media on the fringes of the 3rd Tunisia Digital Summit, the energy deficit in Tunisia for the past years, recalling to this end, renewable energy projects launched over the past two years so as to reduce the energy cost.

Chahed further highlighted the need to identify solutions to reduce the energy deficit, as Tunisia has a potential of solar and wind energy. “Solar projects will kick off this year,” he announced, revealing that the investment in these renewable energy projects is the best way to tackle the energy deficit and to raise awareness about energy consumption rationalisation.

According to him, Article 13 of the Constitution has complicated the oil prospection operation “reducing the production and creating difficulties, which the State endeavours to resolve
