(TAP) – Prime Minister Youssef Chahed announced Wednesday that July 31 of each year is declared National Day of Tunisians Abroad, which will be dedicated to examining ways to reinforce the contribution of the Tunisian Diaspora to the economic, social and cultural development of Tunisia.

Taking the floor at the opening of the annual forum of Tunisians Abroad held in Tunis, Chahed pointed out that incentives will be considered to encourage Tunisians abroad to exploit their savings in foreign currency and convertible dinar in accounts in Tunisian banks and reduce bank taxes on their financial transfers.

Tunisians abroad represent 12% of the total population, about 1 million 300 thousand, the majority of whom are in France. Their transfers in currency are estimated at 4 billion dinars or 5% of GDP, Chahed specified.

Regarding the national council of Tunisians Abroad, the PM said it has not yet started to be operational because of the non-compliance by associations active abroad which will be members of the council, with application conditions.

Chahed indicated that the composition of the council, which will participate in shaping laws and strengthening the role of the Tunisian Diaspora in the national development efforts, will be announced next October
