Youssef Chahed receives COMESA Secretary-General

(TAP) – Prime Minister Youssef Chahed received on Thursday Secretary- General of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Chileshe Kapwepwe, according to a Prime Ministry press release Thursday.

The meeting is part of finalising practical arrangements for Tunisia\\\\\\'s accession to the COMESA, said Kapwepwe, pointing out that this membership to a large market, comprising 21 countries and representing over 560 million consumers, will offer Tunisia ample marketing opportunities for its products and the conclusion of new partnership agreements.

She indicated that the COMESA undertakes to support Tunisia to boost its commercial and economic development and ensure a better sharing of expertise in the technology field.

Tunisia intends to start trade exchanges with the COMESA member States by the end of 2019.

A list of products for export to the COMESA member countries is under preparation by a committee including the private sector and the various representatives of the concerned Tunisian ministries.

Tunisia officially became in July 2018, the 20th member of the COMESA at the Summit of its member countries’ Heads of State and Government, organised in Lusaka, Zambia
