February 9, 2011 - TAP - Following the incidents that burst out on Tuesday February 8, 2011 morning in the Hichria locality, delegation of Sidi Bouzid East, the Interior Ministry said that a group of local citizens staged a demonstration and assaulted the National Guard station by throwing stones after having barred the road leading to the station by burning tyres.
In a communiqué received by TAP news agency on Wednesday February 9, 2011, the Ministry adds that the "protestors tried to force their way into the National Guard station which was closed in a preventive measure and inside which were the chief of the station and agents".
"After failing to break into the station, the demonstrators headed to the house of the chief of the station, looted it entirely, terrorized members of his family and burnt his personal car. They also ransacked one of the officers' home", the same source continues.
"Meanwhile, on the National Guard's request, an Army patrol arrived on the scene to place in safeness the arms available in the station in question, whose chief carefully took the initiative, in co-ordination with the administration, to hide them in his home", the communiqué said.
