February 11, 2011 - TAP - High representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton will pay her first visit to Tunisia next February 13-14, reports the EU delegation in Tunisia.
Mrs. Ashton will meet with members of the interim Government, Heads of Political Parties and Civil Society activists, the same source adds.
The Vice President of the European Commission had announced, at the beginning of the current month to the European Parliament, that she intended to visit Tunis to discuss the assistance the EU was willing to provide to Tunisia after the ouster of the former President.
She had declared that the EU was "ready to enhance its relations with Tunisia through advanced status".
The European MPs had claimed last February 7 in Brussels the holding of a conference of donors for Tunisia meant to provide the country with "targeted support ".
They had called for "coordinating international aid for democratic transition in Tunisia after the fall of Ben Ali's regime". These calls had been launched at a joint meeting of the foreign affairs commission and the subcommittee of Human Rights held to assess the visit of the European Parliament delegation in Tunisia last February 3-6.
