Ways to boost co-operation between National Defense Ministry and ICRC looked at

February 16, 2011 - TAP - National Defense Minister Abdelkarim Zbidi received, on Wednesday February 16, 2011in Tunis, Mr. Jean Michel Monod, Head of the Tunis International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation, with attendance of the ministry's concerned executives.
The meeting provided the opportunity to discuss ways to strengthen co-operation between the ministry and the delegation of ICRC office in the dissemination of the culture of international humanitarian law, military environment and organization of training sessions for servicemen in this field.
The minister commended, in this regard, the leading role played by the office of ICRC delegation to carry out its humanitarian missions, by providing necessary assistance to victims of war and armed conflicts, taking care of prisoners and giving first aid to wounded persons, ill people and civilians victims of conflicts.
He expressed satisfaction, on the occasion, at the Committee's support for Tunisia to modernize prisons so as to comply with international standards.
For his part, Mr. Jean Michel Monod paid tribute to the honorable actions taken by the National Army during this sensitive period to preserve the Revolution and contribute to restoring security and protecting citizens and public and private property. He also asked to visit prisoners supervised by the national army. The minister accepted to help the delegation discharge its mission.
