Foreign Minister receives Mr. William Burns

February 23, 2011 - TAP - Foreign Minister Mouldi Kéfi received, on Wednesday February 23, 2011, American under-Secretary of State for Political Affairs William J. Burns.
Mr. Mouldi Kéfi expressed, during the talk, Tunisia's will to forge ahead on the path of a democratic and pluralist society that respects fundamental freedoms.
He pointed out that the caretaker government's mission is to guarantee the country's stability and organize free and transparent elections in the best deadlines.
After voicing satisfaction at the quality of Tunisian-American relations, the Foreign Minister pointed out that in this transition period to democracy, the international community is called upon to play a greater role in supporting the Tunisian People's Revolution.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. William Burns said to TAP news agency that the talk had been an opportunity to extend the United States of America's congratulations to the Tunisian people for the "historic achievements accomplished during the past weeks".
The American diplomat also expressed "the interest the US takes in Tunisia's success in this transitional period," reasserting his country's commitment to establish a strong partnership with Tunisia.
He added that the American administration undertook to "support the Tunisian economy", specifying in this regard that numerous opportunities are available and that the American investors could play a role in this.
The meeting was attended by US ambassador in Tunis Gordon Gray.
