Interim President appoints Mr. Beji Caid Essebsi as Prime Minister

February 27, 2011 - TAP - Interim President Foued Mebazaa addressed the Tunisian people on Sunday evening, announcing his decision to appoint Mr. Beji Caid Essebsi, as Prime Minister following the resignation of Mr. Mohamed Ghannouchi.
He said he was surprised by the resignation of Mr. Ghannouchi, adding that he had accepted his resignation upon his insistence and determination to do so.
The Interim President expressed his thanks to Mr. Ghannouchi for all the efforts he had exerted and for his devotion to serve Tunisia in this delicate situation facing the country.
Given his attachment to the interests of Tunisia and to guarantee the continuity of the State, with all its institutions, he said that he had asked Mr. Beji Caid Essebsi to hold the post of Prime Minister, a responsibility which he has accepted, stressing the patriotism and loyalty of the new prime minister.
Mr. Foued Mebazaa also said he will address the Tunisian people in a few days to present to them the roadmap for the next stage, in light of the proposals to be submitted by the higher committee for the achievement of the objectives of the Revolution and political reform.
He extended, in conclusion, his thanks and consideration to all those who have made efforts so that Tunisia remains always trustworthy, urging all sides to show calm and objectivity and strive to overcome the state of disorder witnessed by the country.
