Justice Minister confers with Mr. Markus Loning

March 11, 2011  - TAP - Justice Minister Lazhar Karoui Chebbi received, on Friday March 11, 2011 in Tunis, a delegation from the German Government led by Mr. Markus Loning, German Federal Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Aid.
The meeting focused, particularly, on prospects for strengthening judicial co-operation between Tunisia and Germany, in addition to the democratic transition in Tunisia and the organization of elections of the National Constituent Assembly next July.
The Justice Minister stressed the historic relations between the two countries, particularly in the judicial field, which date back to the first convention signed in this field in 1966.
He called on Germany and all European Union countries to assist Tunisia at all levels to achieve the objectives of the January 14, 2011 Revolution, though which the Tunisian people yearn for freedoms, enhance the independence of the judiciary and entrench human rights in both theory and practice "and that is what the Interim Government is striving to achieve".
The German official expressed his country's willingness to support Tunisia in this transitory phase in its history.
He reasserted the commitment to boost judicial co-operation, particularly exchange of expertise and consolidation of co-operation between judges and lawyers of the two countries.
