March 14, 2011 - TAP - Secretary of State in charge of Tourism Slim Chaker issued an invitation to British tourists to visit and discover "New Tunisia," during a meeting held, on Sunday in Djerba, with a delegation of British journalists who are presently staying in Tunisia.
On the occasion, the Secretary of State "paid tribute to the British authorities for their support to and solidarity with Tunisia and its people," recalling that "Great Britain was the first European country to lift its travel restrictions to Tunisia."
Mr. Chaker pointed out that Tunisia is planning to stage a promotion campaign in Great Britain, specifying that ambitious objectives are assigned to that market.
He also said that efforts were being exerted to diversify the Tunisian tourist offer, to respond to the British tourists' expectations.
After the meeting, the British journalists escorted the Secretary of State on a visit to the Ras Jedir Shousha refugee camp, where they eye-witnessed the refugees' accommodation conditions and the voluntary and aid work carried out by civil society components, alongside the Tunisian National Army and NGOs, most of which are stemming from the United Nations.
