President of European Parliament to visit Tunisia next March 17-19

March. 15, 2011 - TAP - European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek will pay his first visit to Tunisia next March 17-19, a European diplomatic sources in Tunis reported.
He will meet Interim Prime Minister Béji Caid Essebsi and members of the Interim Government, as well as General Secretaries of political parties and Heads of civil society organizations.
The President of the European Parliament will also lecture at the Tunis Faculty of Law and Legal Sciences and attend a seminar on “democratic transition” jointly held by the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights network.
Jerzy Buzek had said last Friday in Brussels that he will visit Tunisia and Egypt to reaffirm the European Community’s commitment to back up democratic transitions in these countries and discuss short, medium and long term strategies of partnership in North Africa.
The President of the European Parliament is visiting Tunisia one month after the Head of European Diplomacy Catherine Ashton.
