US Secretary of State visits CRT's National Centre for Volunteers Training

March. 17, 2011 - TAP - U.S. Secretary of State Mrs. Hillary Clinton, who is on a visit to Tunisia, expressed consideration for the Red Crescent and its volunteers for their remarkable action in providing humanitarian assistance on the Tunisian-Libyan border.
During a visit she paid, on Thursday to the National Centre for Volunteers Training coming under the Tunisian Red Crescent, Mrs. Clinton expressed the willingness of the U.S. Government to partner with this humanitarian association.
She said that the Tunisian Revolution has brought about great hopes, stressing the need to support it by carrying out political, economic and social reforms.
For his part, Mr. Ibrahim Gharbi, Chairman of the Tunisian Red Crescent expressed thanks to the American side for the assistance it has provided to the association, expressing hope that the bilateral co-operation programme started since 1967 will be strengthened.
The Tunisian Red Cross received, during this visit, an ambulance and medical equipment as "gift from the American people".
The U.S. Secretary of State got acquainted with the centre's activities and samples of assistance, particularly food products and blankets delivered by the Tunisian Red Cross to the refugees on the Tunisian-Libyan border.
The National Centre for Volunteers Training was created thanks to an American donation and came into operation in March 2008.
The centre holds training sessions in the areas of humanitarian assistance at the national, Maghreb and international levels.
