Interim President receives US Secretary of State

March 17, 2011 TAP - Interim President Foued Mebazaa received, on Thursday, visiting US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The meeting offered the opportunity to reassert the close longstanding ties binding the two friendly countries, and to look at means to reinforce co-operation and partnership relations and diversify their fields, in the service of mutual interests.
On the occasion, Mr. Foued Mebazaa laid emphasis on the important steps made by Tunisia on the path of democratic transition after the January 14 Revolution, reviewing the efforts exerted to consolidate the foundations of the state of law and institutions, to reinforce human rights and favor fundamental liberties, with a view to achieving the objectives of the Revolution.
Besides, he reviewed the priorities of the coming period, as regards notably achieving fair development in all regions of the country, increasing job opportunities and improving people's living standards.
For her part, Mrs. Hillary Clinton voiced great admiration for the Tunisian Revolution which, she said, is "a major historic event" and "an example worth following," expressing wish that the goals of the Revolution be achieved, notably in light of the reforms started by Tunisians at all levels.
She expressed the United States' readiness to support Tunisia throughout this important and sensitive stage, so as to succeed its transition and achieve the Tunisian people's aspiration to a better future, reasserting her country's will to boost bilateral co-operation in the economic field and energize investment in priority regions.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Mohamed Mouldi Kéfi and the US ambassador in Tunis.
