Foreign Affairs Minister receives delegation of European Commission for Democracy through Law

March 17, 2011- TAP - Foreign Affairs Minister Mohamed Mouldi Kefi received, on Thursday March 17, 2011 in Tunis, a delegation of the European Commission for "Democracy through Law," led by Mr. Gianni Buquicchio, chairman of this body, and including Romanian Secretary of State for European Affairs and prominent French and Turkish university professors in constitutional law.
The Foreign Minister thanked the delegation for their laudable initiatives to get informed of the new reality of Tunisia after the January 14 Revolution which is being built upon the values of democracy, respect for human rights and preservation of fundamental freedoms.
He expressed the Interim Government's commitment to take up the challenge of the July 24 election, in view of the election of a Constituent Assembly whose assigned task will be to draft a new Constitution.
He stressed, in this regard, the will to ensure conditions of success to the democratic transition process.
Chairman of the commission, dubbed "Venice Commission" and coming under the Council of Europe, said that this visit to Tunisia, along with the delegation he heads, aims to show support to the Tunisian people and their Revolution and also express the Commission's readiness to benefit Tunisia of its know-how and expertise, particularly in matters of constitutional reform and electoral law.
