Higher Authority for Achievement of Revolution Objectives to enlarge Council composition

March. 22, 2011 - TAP - "Despite reiterated calls to suspend its activities, the Council of the Higher Authority for the Achievement of the Revolution Objectives, Political Reform and Democratic Transition will carry on works" authority President Iyadh Ben Achour said.
"The activities of this authority will go on until the completion of consultations over its composition and the setting up of an internal committee within the Council that will be tasked with contacting the regions, the remaining political parties and the excluded members so that they might join it " he declared.
Asides from the second session of the authority Council held late on Tuesday morning, Ben Achour said to Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) News Agency that the next stage will record increased representativeness of political parties through appointing two members of each party, the aim being to allow each party to have three representatives.
As to the confidentiality of debates which was broadly criticized by the Council members, Ben Achour said that this is a principle provided for in the law which should not be violated.
Speaking of the reservations expressed during the first session, he said that they had been conveyed to the government.
The Council should not include more than 100 members, otherwise, it will turn into a Parliamentary institution, he affirmed.
The next session will be held on Saturday, March 26, ahead of the completion of consultations on the new composition.
