March. 24, 2011  -TAP - Interim President Foued Mebazaa received, on Thursday, Director of Adenauer Foundation, European Parliament member and former Chairman Hans-Gert Pottering.
At the end of the meeting, the latter expressed "great admiration for the Tunisian Revolution", estimating that the Tunisian people are entitled to be "very proud that the wind of freedom and democracy presently blowing across the Arab world started from Tunisia".
He pointed out that the meeting was an opportunity to look at means to support Tunisia's democratisation process. "We side with the Tunisian people who have recovered their freedom and who will quench their thirst for democracy during the coming elections", Mr. Pottering said.
He asserted that the Konrad Adenauer Foundation is ready to provide support to Tunisian organisations. "We are proud that we had in the past, at a time when democracy did not exist in the country, contacts with the Tunisian civil society: NGOs, universities and human rights associations", voicing satisfaction at the possibility, at present, to carry on contacts openly in order to help the country on the path of democratisation.
It is worth recalling that the Foundation is organising, on the 24th-25th instant in Tunis, a conference on "Changes in Tunisia and their Impact on the Mediterranean Region".
Konrad Adenauer Stiftung is a German research foundation created in 1956. It operates in the civic and political education fields, supports European integration and promotes international understanding and co-operation.
