Interim Prime Minister receives delegation from SNJT Executive Bureau

March. 28, 2011 - TAP - The situation of the press sector in Tunisia was the focus of the meeting Interim Prime Minister Béji Caïd Essebsi had, on Monday morning, with a delegation from the National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT).
SNJT Chairman Néji Baghouri told Tunis Afrique Press (TAP) news agency that the meeting had provided the opportunity to underline the importance to establish a free and independent press and to strive to develop journalists' professional and material situation.
He underscored the imperative to make journalists' work easier and discussed some of the difficulties recently faced by journalists in their coverage of events.
The meeting was also an occasion to raise the issue of the draft press code, he said, estimating that the document should meet the expectations of media and the requirements of the new stage the country is going through.
The meeting also turned on the Union's present structure. A project for the creation of a Tunisian Journalists' Union was presented to Interim Prime Minister, specified SNJT Chairman.
"Mr. Béji Caïd Essebsi reasserted support to the freedom of the press, a professional and neutral press which fulfills its role in accordance with the required standards," he concluded
