April 2, 2011 – TAP  - In the wake of statements recently circulated by Italian media quoting Italian political sides as pointing "Tunisia's non-compliance with the agreement signed in the area of fight against illegal immigration, on the occasion of the Italian Foreign And Home Ministers' visit to Tunisia, on March 25, 2011," the Foreign Ministry makes it clear that there has never been any agreement concluded during that visit, we learned from an authorized source in the department on Saturday.
While reasserting solidity of the historical ties binding it to this friendly country, notably since the signing of the 2003 friendship and good neighbourliness convention, Tunisia calls on the government and people of Italy to show solidarity with the Tunisian people at this crucial transition stage the country is going through, after its glorious Revolution, especially in the face of the present challenges on the Tunisian-Libyan borders, with the arrival of more than 150,000 refugees who have been hosted by the Tunisian people in an unequalled demonstration of solidarity, in spite of the difficult conditions which Tunisia has been confronted with, as testified to it by several countries and international and humanitarian organizations.
